The aim of the research project is to 1) provide information for policy makers to help to minimize the negative impacts of the COVID –19 crisis on gender equality 2) provide information for labour organizations and companies on gendered impacts of COVID-19 at work place and 3) disseminate knowledge on questions related to COVID-19 and gender equality for wider public audience.

The project is divided into four work packages: 

Study of Individual-level progression of COVID-19 infection

The aim of the national COVIDprog study is to investigate the impact of different individual factors on the course of coronavirus infection, particularly among those who develop the severe form of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Finnish Research Infrastructure for Population Based Surveys

The aim of this research infrastructure is to provide support for researchers and research groups

  • In accessing and using the existing survey data by supporting the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principle.
  • In preparation a new survey by facilitating the use of standardized and validated methods and instruments to enhance comparability of the outcomes/results between studies and over time.

FINGER - research project

FINGER

The FINGER study investigated efficacy of a multidomain lifestyle intervention including dietary guidance (according to national recommendations), physical activity, cognitive training, and monitoring and management of cardiovascular risk factors. The control group received general health advice. The active intervention period lasted for 2 years, and participants are followed up regularly thereafter.

COVID-19 Coronavirus infection and exposure in households

The aim of the study is to find out how individuals infected with the novel coronavirus produce antibodies as a result of a COVID-19 infection. In addition, the study will look into whether antibodies can be measured for other coronaviruses that cause respiratory infections and whether the virus is still found on mucous membranes after healing. 

Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Aging and Dementia

The CAIDE study (Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Aging and Dementia) investigates the lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors for dementia, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and structural brain changes using the follow-up period extending up to almost thirty years. The main aim of the study is to explore the modifiable risk and protective factors for dementia and AD, and also gene-environmental interactions, with special focus on the effects and putative interactions between the apoE epsilon4 allele and lifestyle risk factors.

Climate change and Health: Adapting to Mental, Physical and Societal challenges

This project will extend understanding of climate change impacts beyond direct health effects to the wider societal costs.
