The ‘BURDEN 2020 – The burden of disease in Germany at the national and regional level’ study uses several indicators including years of life lost (YLL) to cover the impact of mortality and years lived with disability (YLD) to cover morbidity. The sum of both is the measure of population health called disability adjusted life years (DALY).

National Diabetes Surveillance

The research project to establish a national diabetes surveillance in Germany at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health and extends over a period of six years. The project aims to develop periodic indicator-based diabetes health reporting to provide prompt and action-oriented information for health policy, health research, health care and public health. This is to be done by operationalising the links between data from RKI health monitoring and other relevant sources at the federal and regional levels.

National Mental Health Surveillance

National Mental Health Surveillance

The aim of establishing a national mental health surveillance system in Germany at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is to define a set of core indicators of mental health that will guide action and to create a sustainable database for these indicators, incorporating primary data from the RKI health monitoring system and relevant secondary data from the health care system, among other things. On this basis, regular statements on mental health in Germany can be made.

NFDI4Health - Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur für personenbezogene Gesundheitsdaten

Intensivregister

The DIVI-Intensivregister records the treatment capacities in intensive care medicine of about 1,300 acute hospitals in Germany on a daily basis (as of April 2021). In the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, current case numbers of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care are also recorded.  The project was started in April 2020 as a cooperation of the Robert Koch-Institut (data owner) and DIVI e.V.  - Deutsche Interdisziplinäre Vereinigung für Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin.
