National Node Description

Slovakia does not have an official National Node. However, there are certain information nodes which could cover the expected functionalities in common. Placement in different entities is caused by different legal establishment of certain bodies of public governance.

Legal framework and institutional responsibilities

National Health Information Centre (NHIC) is a state-funded organization founded by the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. Status and role of the NHIC is governed by Act no. 153/2013 Coll. on the National Health Information System and on Amendments and Additions to Certain Laws. eHealth inforamtion about the organization are available here.

  • Epidemiologic supervision and reporting is sited in Public Health Authority. More details on competencies and activities of the Authority in the field of protection, promotion and development of public health are stated in the Act no. 355/2007 Coll., paragraph 5.
  • Demography associated with health is processed in Statistical Office of SR.
  • State Institute for Drug Control is performing the state supervision in the field of pharmacy, to execute state administration in the matters of drug antecedents, to control the manufacture and wholesale distribution of pharmaceuticals.
  • Most of the health and health related data is assembled in the National Health Information System, whereas datasets from external sources must be uploaded and readjusted in NHIC.

Personal patient data are recorded, accessed and processed only upon written or digitally signed patient consent.

Unique Patient Identifier is developed, but in the transitory period we still use the general identicator generated at birth.
