Wide variations in COVID-19 infection and outcomes exist across Europe and within countries. The research question below aims to clarify the relationship between a wide variety of risk factors as exposures and outcomes (infection, hospitalisation, death) and explore how this varies between settings and over time. Research was carried out to demonstrate how the distribution of infection, outcomes and risk factors using individual level health record, administrative and research data can be combined with ecological/group level contextual data across European populations to produce actionable policy insights.

  • Title: Vulnerable populations, inequalities and risk factors with direct or indirect impact on COVID-19 outcomes
  • Author(s): Sarah Aldridge; Javier González-Galindo; Francisco Estupiñán-Romero; Lorenz Dolanski-Aghamanoukjan;
  • Researcher(s): Ronan Lyons; Andrea Schmidt; Enrique Bernal-Delgado; Stefan Mathis-Edenhofer
  • Research question: Has the COVID19 pandemic changed existing patterns of non-COVID-19 health care utilisation and mortality for vulnerable populations within and between countries? This is based around answering the indirect effects of the pandemic on population health.
  • Cohort: Any patients 18 years old or older, with a hospital episode with a main diagnosis of any of the conditions included in the cohort definition (i.e. heart attack, stroke, hip or knee replacements, or severe trauma) from 2019-01-01 until today.
  • Countries involved: Austria, Croatia, Finland, Spain (IACS), Wales (UK)

PHIRI Docker Application

In 13 data hubs, the PHIRI App Docker is already deployed and tested (December 2022). However, there are some other countries or institutions that have also downloaded and deployed the Docker outside of the PHIRI project.
