Information
Description
In conjunction with the second annual Gathering of the Global Group of Heads of State and Government for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) for the Global NCD Compact, taking place alongside the UN High-level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO), NCD Alliance, and the World Diabetes Foundation will co-host the second Multistakeholder Gathering to Accelerate Action on SDG 3.4 and UHC. The primary concern is that only a few countries are making progress towards achieving the target of reducing premature mortality from NCDs by one-third by 2030, as outlined in SDG target 3.4. WHO has identified cost-effective and affordable solutions to combat NCDs, including best buys and recommended interventions. The NCD Countdown 2030 report highlights that in 2021, all countries still had opportunities to meet SDG target 3.4 by 2030.
This year's second Gathering will mark the launch of the Global Week for Action on NCDs, a campaign promoting the integration of NCDs into UHC packages. The Multistakeholder Gathering will unveil the WHO Global Mapping report on multisectoral actions to strengthen the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and mental health conditions. This report, coordinated by the Global NCD Platform Department, will showcase how countries are implementing multisectoral actions involving various government sectors and stakeholders.
