On June 20th, WHO/Europe will host a one-hour public webinar as part of the 'Decoding Data and Digital Health' series, delving into the challenges, opportunities, and facilitators in promoting equity in healthcare through telemedicine. Universal access to healthcare is a fundamental right, but disparities persist, particularly among marginalized and underserved populations. Telemedicine emerges as a promising solution to bridge these gaps, enabling cost reduction and enhanced service availability. This webinar, organized by WHO/Europe's data and digital health team via Zoom, will convene experts experienced in telehealth's role in healthcare transformation to share best practices and insights. In 2022, a study by WHO/Europe and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya found telemedicine's benefits in chronic disease screening, diagnosis, management, and long-term follow-up in the region. However, barriers related to users, technology, and infrastructure were also identified, highlighting the need for comprehensive approaches. The adoption of WHO/Europe's 'Regional digital health action plan' by all 53 Member States underscores a commitment to a people-centered digital health approach, emphasizing health equity and inclusivity in digital societies. This webinar aims to further these objectives and foster a more equitable future.
