Overview
The European Health Survey (EHIS) is a standardized health survey that is conducted regularly, every five (until 2019) or six year (from 2020 onwards) in all EU member states in the same year. The first cycle of the survey was conducted in most EU countries during 2007-2010. Croatia did not participate in that cycle, as it was not yet a member of the EU at the time. The second cycle of the survey (EHIS 2) was conducted in the period 2013-2015 and on the basis of the legal framework of the European Union and for the first time, along with other EU members, Croatia participated in it. The results were published in the publications European Health Survey in Croatia 2014-2015. Basic Indicators, Use of Health Care and Life Habits.
The third cycle of the survey (EHIS 3) was conducted in 2019 and in it, along with other EU members, Croatia again participated. The EHIS 3 survey in Croatia was conducted by the Croatian Institute of Public Health in cooperation with health centers and their health visitor services, county institutes of public health, the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Health.
The target population in the study was all persons aged 15 and over living in private households in the territory of the Republic of Croatia.
The questionnaire consisted of four modules:
- Core social variables
- Health status
- Heath care use
- Health determinants.
